Booby Feeding

I keep thinking about this.

Because I'm a little terrifed.

Because I know how bad it hurt last time with Lu.

For the first month I cried. A. Lot....then of course it got better and the little nugget latched on for a good solid 9 months.

But this time. I'm scared. Really. Scared.
Maybe cuz I know how it feels.
Or cuz I don't think I'll be able to do it since I had a little boobie job (don't judge).

So, I've been prepping my nips with the nip cream (as Joc suggested) hoping this will help with the first initial suckles.

I'm not scared for this bad boy to come out of my va-gi-gi. But I'm terrified of the booby feeding. And for some reason, whipping my knocker out from my shirt in public isn't something I'm really looking forward too either. With Lu, I could care less...perhaps because I was in Spain and titties where everywhere?

Hooter hider....

Any words of wisdom?

That's why you pump before you leave the house, then feed him a bottle when you are out. :) easy peasy.

Yes, I second Shawna on that one. And also...nipple shields. They were my best friend. No excuse me...they were my breast friend.

Lots of nipple cream and if you pump your boobies aren't as tender so pump and store. With Sammy I had no shame in feeding him anywhere and everywhere and I really didn't have any issues with people being bothered by it but nursing covers are great and so many choices. I used the ergo carrier with a nurse cover and could even go on a walk with Sammy nursing :)

Try mother's milk tea and fenugreek if you're worried about your milk. Ladies in my family can't breast feed because they don't have enough milk and I had a little work done so I was worried in both categories and these two things worked great for me and were ok'd by the doc

I agree with using nipple cream in advance. I was pretty worried too and put that stuff on morning/night! I love my hooter hider for being out and about!

Just some nursing advise from a stranger! Gotta love that! The most helpful advise I received was from my wonderful lactation consultant (I would totally recommend a visit with a LC - my insurance covered the visit and it gave me much-needed piece of mind). This is what she told me:

Nothing is permanent.

I repeat this to myself a lot. Nothing is permanent; not engorgement, not clogged ducts, not cracked & painful nipples (lanolin!), not foremilk imbalances. It all evens out, and then I’ll be running low for a couple days, dry as the Sahara, then suddenly I’ll be a leaky faucet for a couple days after that. One minute I’m making her overly gassy and she screams in torment–not the boobs, mom!–and the next minute we’re blissfully nursing away the afternoon. But nothing sticks around. This is both good news and bad news.

Anyway, you can do it! Best of luck.

oh, you'll be FINE - for me, the second time around was totally fine, first time = miserable. Your boobies will remember, new OR old, I don't think it's something that they ever forget. Just remember, do what's best for YOU, not anyone else. :) XOXO

I also had a lot of soreness while feeding. I actually got sores that required a prescribed cream! OUCH! I cried a lot, but nursed for 11 months with the help of the cream. My boy had a very strong suck! I would definitely recommend the tea, or anything that helps increase the milk production because the more you have to offer, the more the baby will get. I felt my little guy was having to suck hard because my production wasn't good enough. Definitely pump if you like it. I personally hated it.

I will definitely prepare my nips the next time around. It wasn't pretty there for a few days, but we powered through and it ended up being great. Minus the fact that my kid NEVER took a bottle. I will definitely be introducing the bottle earlier as well.

Not sure if you will be at Evergreen or not, but the lactation consultants there are fantastic. They were my go to gals while I was there and even for a few days after we got home. I had one of their phone numbers memorized...

Just have heather get me in front of you once Briggs arrives and let me be your sounding board as you painfully grimace with each aggressive suck those first few weeks. And mind you during those first few weeks when you're deeeeeeeeep in the trenches your nipples aren't the only things aching...your crotch, your brain, your heart from so much freaking joy. Just remember your nipples are not alone. I'm getting so extremely excited for you 3 and for this space to be bombarded with all things Briggs. (Dani and I were just gushing about what a great name Briggs is too.) You are gonna nail this. Breast feeding, birthing, juggling two. You got this girl.
